E voila l’ Athene! Welcome to the cradle of civilization…
Athens is well known not only for Acropolis – one of the 7th wonders of the world – but it’s well hidden secrets lies in the city’s vibes!
Getting Started
A non-standard approach we propose would be a get-the-city-feeling, instead of start visiting the museums and local monuments.
Try Kolonaki area & Ermou Street for shopping; and after that exhausting tour, get spoiled at the cozy spots like the old city (Plaka), Thissio, Psirri, Gazi & Keramikos and Pireos Avenue club areas! Avant Garde bars, restaurants and traditional small taverns, all at your disposal… nightlife in Athens has just started!
During winter months the city center is perfect for eat & dine, but during summer months the people move to sea-side areas, where there is plenty of variety to choose also. Mikrolimano (Pireaus), Glyfada and Vouliagmeni host the best places to enjoy a good dinner and even greater clubbing… No need to mention of course those great sunsets next to the sea…
Athens Places Worthy of Visit.
- The Athens Acropolis – No need to introduce it – you feel its energy when you see it! – one of the most important monuments of the World Heritage List – a great piece of the history of civilization with a new museum to fulfill this glory
- The Ancient Agora Within the unification of archaeological places Then Ancient Agora will steal your soul
- The Poseidon Temple at Sounio – Far away form the city centre the Poseidon Temple will let you feel how the ancient Greek gods used to enjoy the tribute to them
- The Flea Market at Monastiraki - on Sundays – antiques, porcelains, rare objects and collector’s items
Every place is different and the scenery fits everyone’s taste.
Let’s continue, shall we?
Athens is an easy city to be around thanks to a good transportation network that includes a great Metro and a refurbished bus network. Both combined can get you at every specific place you choose easily within an average of 30 minutes per route.
However since nothing comes for free in this life, we need to mention that Athens is not a cheap city anymore. Average prices for a lunch or dinner are around 30-50 euros per person and transportation around 2-5 euros per day with local means. Taxi costs starts from 7-10 euro per route within the city.
You can get to Athens centre from El. Venizelos airport either with the subway or a taxi within 30-45 minutes depending the traffic.
Athenians are easy people to socialize with a great sense of humor. They have developed an international code of ethics, friendly and often more than that will try to maximize your pleasure and make you feel Athens as your second home! Just say kalimera (good morning) and ask what you want!
